WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
This is a fun, easy one-day beginner's class. No painting experience is necessary!
Students will learn basic color theory, mixing, diluting, and blending colors. A variety of silk-painting techniques will be demonstrated and taught including: shading, washes, painting wet-on-wet, blending, line-resist, and using salt.
COLOR BLANKET
The morning will be devoted to learning about the paints.
Students will be creating a COLOR BLANKET/COLOR CHART using the basic paints in their ROCCO PAINT kit.
The paints are called ROCCO FABRICART PAINTS; they are permanent, colorfast, easy to use, water-based and non-toxic. They can be used for silk painting, air-brushing, batik, stamping, stenciling, and screening. They are water-soluble and easy to clean with tap water. They are water resistant when dry and heat set using an iron or tumbling in a hot dryer for a few minutes.
PRIMARY COLORS in the ROCCO FABRICART PAINT KIT:
*yellow, *fuchsia, * red, *turquoise, and *black
SECONDARY COLORS will be mixed in class:
*orange, *green, *violet
COMPLEMENTARY COLORS will be mixed in class.
These are colors that are mixed directly opposite each other on the color wheel.
I RECOMMEND GETTING A COLOR WHEEL FOR ARTISTS. It can be found in any art supply store. (This is not included in your supply kit.

PAINTING TECHNIQUES SAMPLER
Demonstration of different painting techniques will take place in the afternoon. Students will have a chance to work on another piece of stretched silk and make a PAINTING TECHNIQUE SAMPLER using 3 or 4 different techniques including: shading, washes, painting wet-on-wet, blending, line-resist, and using salt.
SUPPLIES PROVIDED:
- ROCCO FABRICART PAINT KIT, 5 colors in 2 oz dropper bottles
- one 2-oz dilutant
- plastic carrying box
- one 2-oz bottle with resist
- metal tip for resist line work
- 4 stretcher bars to make 1 frame 22" X 22"
- 20 silk push pins
- 5 paint brushes
- 5 sponge tip applicators
- 1" foam brush
- painting palette mixing tray
SUPPLY LIST FOR STUDENTS TO BRING:
- 1 to 2 yards of Cosmopolitans: Sleek & Silky fabric to be purchased at the store
- paper towel roll
- hair dryer and iron
- small mixing cups with lids: 1 oz or 2 oz (about 20)
- 2 or 3 clear plastic containers, for washing brushes (16oz deli containers)
- notebook, pencil, and scissors
- blue fabric washable pencil, permanent marker thin
